Geochemical analysis of Fraxinus americana and Acer saccharum wood after four years of decomposition in a northern temperate deciduous forest, Corinth, VT USA, 2024
Abstract
We deployed 42 standardized (same dimensions and source) wood stakes from sugar maple (Acer saccharum) and white ash (Fraxinus americana) on the forest floor of a northern U.S. hardwood forest in Corinth, VT. After four years (2020-2024), we collected the stakes for analysis of mass loss, fungal biomass (via ergosterol), and nutrient concentrations.
