Abstract

Primary osteoarthritis is the most common knee disease with degenerative and inflammatory features. Intraarticular corticosteroid (IACS) is commonly used to suppress inflammation and control pain. Furthermore, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has cell-promoting properties in addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, as demonstrated by in vitro studies. However, subclinical inflammation in knee osteoarthritis is difficult to detect, thus we used synovialfold thickness as an imaging biomarker to compare inflammation in the knee after intraarticular injection with corticosteroid and PRP. This study aimed to demonstrate the anti-inflammatoryproperties of PRP by synovial fold thickness change in ultrasonography compared with intraarticular steroid injection.
