The Russian colour lexicon and its diatopic variation: elicited lists, cognitive salience of colour terms, and neologism boom
Abstract
We investigated the Russian colour inventory and, in addition, compared regiolects of young native speakers from Kazan (NK=112) and Smolensk (NS=143), two cities in European Russia ca. 2,000 km apart. Participants completed a colour-term elicitation task during five minutes. Elicited in Kazan were 362 and in Smolensk 423 unique terms. The following supporting information can be downloaded at: https://figshare.com/s/a962727e3e7f3112eacd.- Original individual lists (N = 112) elicited in Kazan (in Russian)- Original individual lists (N = 143) elicited in Smolensk (in Russian)- Preprocessed data elicited in Kazan (in Russian)- Preprocessed data elicited in Smolensk (in Russian)- Kazan matrix of adjacencies for cognitively salient CTs (N = 36) (in English transliteration)- Smolensk matrix of adjacencies for cognitively salient CTs (N = 36) (in English transliteration)- Scripts used for data processing and analysis
