Dataset for the research Continuous nonthermal slab gap formed by progressive tearing beneath Northeast Asia
Abstract
The files included in this archive correspond to the input data and output models used in the manuscript “Continuous nonthermal slab gap formed by progressive tearing beneath Northeast Asia” by Jung-Hun Song, Seongryong Kim, Benoit Tauzin, and Junkee Rhie. A description of each file is explained as below: (1) dataP & dataS: The files dataP and dataS contain the teleseismic traveltime residual data used to construct the teleseismic tomography model. The data format follows the input requirements of the FMTOMO package (http://rses.anu.edu.au/~nick/fmtomo.html), and detailed information on the format can also be found in the FMTOMO manual. The files dataP and dataS provide P-wave and S-wave residuals, respectively. Each directory contains traveltime data for individual sources, whose file names begin with “ar~” followed by the event year, Julian day, and event time (hour, minute, and second). In each file, the first line indicates the number of residuals measured for the corresponding event, the second line provides the event location (latitude in degrees, longitude in degrees, and depth in kilometers), and the third line specifies the seismic phase used for measuring residuals. The following lines list information for each station: the first and second columns correspond to station latitude and longitude (in degrees), the third column gives station elevation (in kilometers, with negative values indicating above sea level), and the subsequent columns show the measured residuals (in seconds), their corresponding uncertainties (in seconds), and the station names. (2) velP.xyz, velS.xyz, velPS.xyz : The files velP.xyz, velS.xyz, and velPS.xyz contain the final three-dimensional velocity models determined by seismic tomography, as presented in Figure 3 of the manuscript. The format of each model file is organized as follows for each line: longitude (degrees), latitude (degrees), depth (kilometers), velocity (Vp or Vs, in kilometers per second, or Vp/Vs ratio), and reference velocity (Vp or Vs, in kilometers per second, or Vp/Vs). Only mantle velocities are included in these files. (3) MTZtemperature_calculation.tar.gz: This archive contains scripts for calculating mantle temperature at a given geographic position using mantle transition zone (MTZ) thickness together with P-wave (dVp) and S-wave (dVs) velocity perturbations. For detailed instructions on how to run the scripts and required dependencies, please extract the archive and refer to the included README.txt file. Additional Source Data A separate archive ("Source_Data.zip") has been prepared to facilitate the reproducibility of the main figures in the manuscript. This archive includes processed datasets as well as detailed documentation of the original data sources used for figure construction. The data are organized by figure, and detailed descriptions are provided in the "README.txt" files within each DATA_FIG directory.
