Image Attachment Rejang Language Learning as Local Content: An Ethnographic Classroom Study at SDN 158 Bengkulu Utara
Abstract
Rejang is the oldest tribe in Bengkulu Province, and its language has been chosen as the mandatory local content taught in schools, including the KaGaNga script. This research was conducted at State Elementary School (SD) 158 in Air Baus Village, which is known as "Kampung Sunda." Its sub-focus is to observe how the Rejang language teaching and learning process includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning; student appreciation for Rejang language local content lessons; and approaches and models for teaching Rejang language local content. This research method uses an ethnographic study of the realist ethnographic type, data collection through interviews and questionnaires, and the analysis technique used is Spradley's analysis (domain, taxonomic, and cultural theme analysis). The findings of this research are 1) teachers' lesson planning is guided by learning resources (the curriculum from the training and textbooks); 2) the implementation of the Rejang regional language learning (varied methods focusing on language skills and knowledge of recognizing letters, numbers, translating Indonesian into Rejang, folk tales, and reading stories, as well as the KaGaNga script); 3) evaluation of Rejang language learning; 4) student appreciation for Rejang local content learning (students value and enjoy participating in lessons); 5) the learning approach used by teachers (communicative approach with a contextual task-based model); and so on. Rejang local as a form of strengthening students' national character through love for their local wisdom, fostering camaraderie without discrimination, and allowing students to freely develop and interact with the community.
