Abstract

A full factorial design of experiments in Abrasive Waterjet Cutting was implemented. The parameters abrasive mass flow rate, traverse speed and water pressure were varied over three levels, while material thickness and stand-off distance were varied over two levels. This experimental design was executed for two workpiece materials: mild steel and aluminum. Thus, considering the tensile strength of the two materials as parameters, a total of 3×3×3×2×2×2 i.e., 216 unique experimental trials were carried out. The levels of the process parameters are shown in Table below.ParametersUnitLevelsTensile strength (S)MPa116 and 502Thickness (t)mm2.5 and 5Standoff distance (SoD)mm4 and 6.5Abrasive mass flow rate (ṁa)g/min199, 309 and 425Water pressure (p)MPa100, 200 and 300Traverse speed (v)mm/s50, 75 and 100
