Abstract

This dataset corresponds to a study on Chinese college students' English as a Foreign Language (EFL) reading engagement. The study, grounded in the expectancy-value theory, explores how behavioral, emotional, and cognitive reading engagement mediate the association between students' perceived supportive classroom climate and their reading achievement.A quantitative approach was used, with data collected via online questionnaires. Analyses included hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) for correlational statistics and multivariate regression for a multiple mediator model. Results showed significant mediation effects of the three engagement dimensions (R²: 31.80% for behavioral, 22.70% for emotional, 34.10% for cognitive) between supportive climate and reading achievement. This dataset contains the raw questionnaire data supporting these findings.
