One-dimensional representations of gene cassettes and deletion variations were created using the NCBI genome resources for the B. subtilis reference genome PY79 (5) and the CoolBox (10) application. Boxes with patterned stripping show deletions as called by Mummer (8). Colloquial gene names (if available) are displayed above each deletion. The x-axis labels are linked to the linear kilobase (kb) coordinates of the PY79 reference genome.
