One-dimensional representations of gene cassettes and deletion variations were created using the NCBI genome resources for the B. anthracis reference “Ames ancestor” genome (NC_007530.2) and the CoolBox (10) application. Boxes with patterned stripping show deletions as called by Mummer (8). Colloquial gene names (if available) are displayed above each deletion.
