Information Amplification and Evolvability Latitude: A Unified Framework for Variable Evolutionary Rates*
Abstract
I DEDICATE THIS PAPER TO THE MAN WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE HERE MY DEAR DAD MR ODUFISAN IBRAHIM MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACEAMENThis thesis presents a unified framework for understanding variable evolutionary rates across species. It introduces the Information Amplification Mechanism (IAM), a process by which the acquisition and use of environmental and non-genetic information accelerates adaptation. Two novel metrics are defined: Evolvability Latitude (EL), which quantifies the adaptive potential of a species, and Stabilized Dominance State (SDS), representing ecological stasis. Using the REF 3.0 stochastic simulation model, the thesis explores how EL and IAM interact across archetypal species (e.g., cognitive generalists, stabilized specialists, and intermediate forms), providing testable predictions for evolutionary dynamics. This work bridges concepts from the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis, computational modeling, and theoretical biology, offering a practical framework for studying the role of information in evolution.
