Schistosomiasis poster, by Lukas Serapinas.
Abstract
A review article on the tropical parasitic disease schistosomiasis, presented as a poster. To view, please download and set the magnification to 250%. I originally intended to print this poster in A1 size (standard conference size). I present an in-depth analysis of the current state of research on schistosomiasis. This blood-dwelling flatworm is relatively understudied compared with malaria and toxoplasmosis, and this study aims to raise awareness of this parasite. I think it has notable features: a change in metabolism from anaerobic to aerobic; unique sexual dimorphism (for its class); and an understudied but fascinating entry point into the human body (potentially suppressing pain perception via a pathway similar to that of paracetamol). This poster was an entirely self-directed work. Please forgive any mistakes (I have yet to complete my MSc). I created all graphics, Lukas Serapinas, using Biorender, combining the creation of new graphics from scratch with modifications to existing templates.Thank you for reading! :)
