PERSPECTIVE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AS A WEAPON PROMOTING YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a transformative force in addressing the persistent challenge of youth unemployment. This study explores the extent to which ICT serves as an instrument for promoting employment, entrepreneurship, and vocational development among Nigerian youth. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes questionnaires and secondary data, the research investigates how digital infrastructure, online platforms, and ICT-enabled services empower young people to acquire skills and create income-generating opportunities. The findings indicate that ICT plays a dual role: first, as a direct job-creating sector, and second, as an enabling tool for new business models and flexible employment. Despite infrastructural limitations and unequal digital access, ICT continues to redefine career opportunities and reshape the Nigerian labor market. The study concludes that ICT education and digital literacy are critical to reducing unemployment and promoting inclusive economic growth.
