Abstract

This video shows the evolution of the iso-probability-density surface of the Stokes probability cloud with the degree of polarization, which directly visualizes the variation of statistical distributions of random polarization states for polarization speckles or partially polarized thermal light. The Stokes probability cloud has a typical ellipsoid-like structure with its shape characterized by the degree of polarization and its size described by the mean Stokes parameter S0, respectively. It evolves from a sphere-shaped cloud (for unpolarized thermal light, i.e., natural light, or isotropic polarization speckle) to a beam-shaped cloud directed from the origin (for polarized thermal light or uniform polarization speckle).
