Perceptions of Credibility: Evaluating Bangladeshi Online News Media Platforms in the Digital Age
Abstract
This pilot study examines how Bangladeshi audiences perceive the credibility of local online news media in an environment marked by widespread misinformation and increasing government regulation. Using an online survey of 100 participants, it explores factors influencing credibility judgments, including source transparency, fact-checking practices, and social media influence. Findings show that most respondents rate online news as only moderately credible and report frequent exposure to false information. Perceived media bias and social media cues further shape credibility assessments. The study highlights the need for stronger verification practices and improved media literacy in Bangladesh’s digital news landscape.
