Abstract

India's rapid economic growth has brought significant changes to its socioeconomic landscape; however, these changes are unevenly distributed, resulting in regional disparities. However, due to gaps in conventional data on economic activity at high frequency, measuring regional disparities at the subnational level remains a challenge. This study proposes Night-time Light (NTL) data as a proxy for measuring economic growth and predicting gross domestic product (GDP) at substate levels (gross district domestic product, GDDP). This framework would help researchers to predict subnational economic activity at high frequency.
