English Slang in Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.”: A Linguistic Analysis of Song Lyrics

This paper examines the use of English slang in the song “HUMBLE.” by Kendrick Lamar from a linguistic perspective. The study focuses on identifying slang expressions found in the song lyrics and explaining their meanings based on contextual usage. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the song lyrics serve as the primary data source. The findings show that slang is used to express attitude, emphasis, and identity through informal language. This study contributes to the understanding of slang usage in song lyrics and provides insight for learners of English as a foreign language in interpreting informal English in popular music.
