Strategic Decision-Making in Enterprise Cybersecurity Procurement
Abstract
This qualitative study examines how enterprise organizations actually make cybersecurity vendor selection decisions. Through interviews with 15 CISOs, procurement leaders, and security architects across six industries, the research reveals a significant gap between formal RFP processes and actual decision drivers.Key findings: Integration capabilities matter more than innovation (93%), partnership quality outweighs product specs (87%), informal peer networks influence decisions more than formal evaluations (87%), and total cost of ownership extends far beyond licensing (93%). Decision-makers demonstrate satisficing behavior—choosing the first acceptable vendor rather than optimizing. With $240B in projected global cybersecurity spending for 2026, this research offers critical insights for CISOs, procurement professionals, vendors, and policymakers seeking to improve procurement outcomes.
