Abstract

Executive SummaryThe global burden of mental health conditions continues to grow, affecting over 1 billion people worldwide. Anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders remain the most prevalent conditions, while suicide is a leading cause of death among youth and working-age adults. Mental health services remain underfunded, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, with workforce shortages and limited access posing significant barriers to care. The outlook for 2026 includes expanding digital mental health solutions, integrating mental health into primary care, and scaling up prevention programmes.
