A Comprehensive Visualization and Validation Suite for Global Day-to-Day Temperature Variability (DTD) Characterization
Abstract
The visualization framework developed for this research is engineered to systematically represent the multi-dimensional characteristics of day-to-day temperature variability (DTD) across four major reanalysis datasets. The plotting suite features five primary functional modules designed for rigorous comparative analysis. First, it generates global spatial distribution maps that illustrate DTD gradients from the equator to the poles, incorporating automated bias-calculation layers to highlight discrepancies between reanalysis products and station observations. Second, the code includes seasonal comparative modules that utilize multi-panel layouts to contrast DTD performance during winter and summer extremes. For temporal analysis, the framework implements long-term trend visualization integrated with significance testing, using stippling techniques to denote statistically robust shifts across different latitudes. Finally, the code incorporates statistical graphics for climate extremes, designed to visualize the evolving trade-off between the frequency and intensity of DTD events. These functions collectively provide a comprehensive graphical synthesis of DTD’s regional, seasonal, and altitudinal dependencies, essential for evaluating the fidelity of modern climate models.
