Abstract

Clinical decision making is a vital skill for paramedics, who are required to make high-stakes, time critical decisions in an unpredictable working environment. Currently there is limited research describing how clinical reasoning and decision making are used in clinical practice and taught in paramedic education. This review will consider studies that investigate clinical decision making, clinical reasoning or theories associated with these, that involve paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or ambulance officers in any practice environment. It will also consider studies related students, interns or other descriptors of individuals training in these roles.
