Abstract

In a prior publication (https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.31132684), I provided a derivation of the correct general formula for the hyperfocal distance of a multi-element lens system. This formula is given by Eq. (1) in the above as well as in the current slides. In the current presentation, I show tests for this formula using modelled lens systems in an optical design program (Zemax), whose lens files are all provided in the links below. It shall be shown that the formula is correct, and that the more commonly-known equation that does not involve pupil magnification is generally incorrect, with the exception of specific conditions where pupil magnification = 1.
