Workflow for Creating a 4D Animation with Synchro Pro
Abstract
The workflow for creating a 4D animation in Synchro Pro begins with preparing a coordinated 3D model and a structured construction programme. The 3D model is first imported into Synchro Pro from compatible BIM software, ensuring that model elements are logically grouped and named to support efficient linking.A construction schedule is then imported, typically from planning software such as Primavera or MS Project, or created directly within Synchro Pro. The schedule should reflect realistic construction sequencing, durations, and dependencies.Once both the model and schedule are in place, model elements are linked to relevant construction tasks. This step establishes the time based relationship between physical components and activities, forming the basis of the 4D simulation. Resources, costs, and workspaces can also be assigned at this stage to enrich the analysis. The sequence is then reviewed and refined by running the simulation, adjusting task logic, overlaps, and construction methods where necessary. Visual styles, colours, and appearance profiles are applied to clearly communicate construction stages and progress. Finally, the 4D animation is rendered and exported as a video or interactive simulation. This output can be used for planning validation, stakeholder communication, logistics coordination, and teaching and learning activities, supporting clearer understanding of construction processes over time.
