A student-centred approach to teaching research methodology modules through game-based learning (GBL)
Abstract
I designed an H5P branching scenario methodology game, positioning students as research advisors who must justify paradigm, strategy, sampling, data collection, ethics, and analysis choices. Each decision triggers realistic downstream consequences for feasibility, validity or trustworthiness, generalisability, and resources, with just in time prompts and debriefs making trade-offs explicit and mapping choices to established frameworks.I disseminated this work at the 4th Games-Based Learning Symposium in 2023 (accessible here), sharing the pedagogic design, implementation, and evidence of impact with a specialist audience.
