Perception of Academic Librarians toward Digital Library Services in Islamabad: The Current Status and Influencing Factors
Abstract
This study examines the status and factors influencing digital library services in academic libraries in Islamabad, Pakistan. Adopting a quantitative research design, data were collected through a pretested and piloted questionnaire distributed to 300 academic librarians in Islamabad. A response rate of 93.67% (281 responses) was achieved. The data were analyzed using SPSS v27, employing independent sample t-tests and ANOVA for statistical analysis. The findings reveal a strong preference among librarians for traditional digital resources such as e-books, journals, and citation tools, while multimedia services and digital literacy programs are underutilized. Key factors influencing the adoption of digital library services include technological infrastructure, financial resources, and administrative support. These findings underscore the need for enhanced awareness, improved access, and better integration of less-utilized services to maximize the impact of digital library offerings. This research offers valuable insights for librarians, researchers, and academics, highlighting the importance of addressing technological, financial, and administrative challenges through collaborative efforts. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of digital library service adoption and provide a foundation for future research to optimize the role of academic libraries in supporting education and research.
