Adjuvant Mitomycin C with an Alternative Cycle Strategy after surgical Excision in Conjunctival Melanoma: A Case Report
Abstract
This case report introduces an alternative intermittent-cycle regimen of topical Mitomycin C (MMC 0.04%) as an effective adjuvant therapy for recurrent conjunctival melanoma—a rare and aggressive ocular malignancy. By demonstrating that a four-day MMC cycle with weekly drug-free intervals can achieve lesion regression with minimal ocular toxicity, this study highlights a practical, safer treatment strategy compared with traditional continuous MMC dosing. The article also emphasizes the importance of delayed MMC initiation following surgical excision, helping clinicians balance epithelial healing with anti-tumor efficacy. Through detailed clinical follow-up, histopathology, and impression cytology, this report adds evidence supporting individualized MMC protocols for managing residual or recurrent conjunctival melanoma.
