Abstract

AbstractThe organization of the medical biology laboratory and its full integration into the healthcare delivery chain are critical determinants of healthcare system performance. An optimized laboratory structure directly contributes to improved quality of care by reducing the average length of hospital stay for recovered patients and by promoting outpatient and day-hospital care whenever clinically appropriate. Beyond its technical role, medical biology plays a strategic function in strengthening trust among clinicians, patients, and healthcare institutions. In a university hospital setting, medical biology is inseparable from rigorous internal and external quality control processes, with particular emphasis on the pre-analytical phase, including sample collection, handling, storage, and transportation. Mastery of this phase remains a cornerstone for result reliability and patient safety.Within the framework of Military Health Services, medical biology is regarded as a discipline of high strategic value, where efficiency, discipline, and result reliability are non-negotiable requirements. The contribution of the medical or pharmaceutical biologist extends far beyond analytical execution; it lies in the expert selection of the most appropriate biological tests to answer the clinician’s diagnostic question and to ensure accurate therapeutic monitoring.Medical biology thus stands as a central pillar of modern healthcare systems, combining scientific excellence, organizational rigor, and clinical relevance to meet the highest international standards of quality and performance. Keywords: Medical Biology Laboratory, Healthcare Organization, Quality of Care, Patient Safety, Pre-analytical Phase, Internal and External Quality Control, University Hospital, Military Health Services, Diagnostic Strategy, Therapeutic Monitoring, Laboratory Reliability, Clinical Decision Support, Healthcare Efficiency, Length of Hospital Stay, Trust in Laboratory Medicine
