Daily sea surface salinity and geostrophic velocities during cruises EN614 and M174 along the Amazon River plume
Abstract
These movies are related to "Mixotrophy emerges as an optimal strategy in mature waters of the Amazon River plume". Authors: Ana Fernández-Carrera, Noémie Choisnard, Dirk Wodarg, Iris Liskow, Ajit Subramaniam, Joseph P. Montoya, Maren Voss, and Natalie Loick-Wilde. Under Revision in Communications Biology. Both movies show the daily sea surface salinity (SSS) contours, provided by the Copernicus Global Ocean Physics Analysis and Forecast (doi: 10.48670/moi-00016), and geostrophic velocities, provided by the Copernicus Global Ocean Gridded L4 Sea Surface Heights (doi: 10.48670/moi-00148), for two cruise along the Amazon River plume as well as the stations sampled each day.The shape of the symbols represents the dominant trophic position (TPGlu) in seston, with inverted triangle for autotrophs and asterisk for mixotrophs.Colors of the symbols represent the habitat definition according to Pham et al. (2024) ordered by apparent age: Riverine Input (RI, dark gray), Young Plume Core (YPC, red), Outer Plume Margin (OPM, purple), Western Plume Margin (WPM, yellow), modified Oceanic Water (MOW, dark cyan) and Oceanic Water (OSW, blue).Movie 1 represents the stations samples in 2018 during cruise EN614 on board RV Endeavor.Movie 2 represents the stations samples in 2021 during cruise M174 on board RV Meteor.
