Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) still face significant obstacles to borrowing in formal credit, particularly in emerging economies where information asymmetry and lack of collateral hinder the standard lending systems. Supply Chain Finance has a hopeful solution since it leverages the transaction-based data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as Machine Learning (ML), provide sophisticated instruments to evaluate credit risk. This methodological literature review examines the use of AI in assessing credit risk in SME supply chain finance and particularly in situations in emerging economies. Based on the PRISMA rules, 54 peer-reviewed articles were found and analysed in databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and IEEE Xplore published between 2015 and 2025
