A simplified method for 2-(N-Aryol)benzimidazole synthesis

We have developed an alternative synthetic route for the manufacturing of 2-(N-benzamido)benzimidazoles using a cross-coupling strategy. It is evident from the experimental results and feasible mechanism that the current method involves intra-molecular C–N cyclization. This method works very well with cheap, air-stable, and readily available iron sources as a catalyst. Furthermore, this method makes it possible to easily create a library of 2-(N-benzamido) benzimidazoles in moderate to high yields.
