From Substance Use to Criminal Behavior: A Forensic Psychological Analysis
Abstract
This research examines the psychological pathways linking substance use, addiction, and criminal behavior through a forensic psychology lens. The study focuses on alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids, with particular attention to substances associated with drug sales, distribution, and organized criminal activity. Integrating addiction psychology, behavioral economics, and criminology, the project explores how substance use contributes to criminal behaviors ranging from interpersonal and family-related offenses to large-scale narcotics trafficking. The goal is to provide a comprehensive psychological framework for understanding addiction-driven crime and its implications for forensic assessment, treatment, and policy.
