Abstract

Updated recA and radA gene database for Ocean microbial studies. The new databases have added the recA and radA genes from Tara Ocean datasets (https://tara-oceans.mio.osupytheas.fr/) and ProSynTax (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-025-06164-5). The function of new sequences were also annotated by https://www.kegg.jp/ghostkoala/. The pooled recA dateset was also functional annotated by GhostKOALA and clustered with CD-HIT based on 99% identity.Based on our analysis, the number of recA hits was significantly increased (~+30%) based on the new recA database for the seawater of 500m and 890m depths. So we strongly encourage researchers to update their recA gene database accordingly. For the diamond recA gene blast, I suggest using > 85% identity, > 40% coverage and > 50 min-score.
