The Knowledge Bomb: Structural Instability from Compression Without Closure
Abstract
We establish that knowledge systems exhibit structural instability when information compression occurs without ecological closure—a phenomenon we term the Knowledge Bomb (K-bomb). This instability is not contingent but necessary, following from the Intrinsic Operational Gradient Theorem (IOGT) and the fundamental distinction between technological systems (P≠NP, accumulative, inelegant) and ecological systems (P=NP, regenerative, elegant). AI acceleration increases compression velocity while degrading decompression infrastructure, exponentially increasing systemic risk. We ground this framework in process ontology: mathematics symbolizes nature, nature does not symbolize mathematics; computational constraints are therefore physical constraints. The natural response to unsustainable complexity is not violent conflict but dissolution—a phase transition to coordination scales where human relationship enables closure. Families, local communities, and other face-to- face contexts function as bomb shelters where knowledge condenses into wisdom through relationship.
