Abstract

This repository contains the R code used to generate the analyses and figures for our manuscript submitted to PLOS ONE. It is designed to be fully reproducible, allowing other researchers to verify or build upon our methods. The statistical analysis was conducted in R (v4.2.2). The primary scripts utilize the following packages:● tableone : For baseline descriptive statistics and group comparisons (t-tests, chi-square).● stats : For logistic regression modeling (unadjusted, demographic-adjusted, fully adjusted).● jstable & forestploter : To conduct and visualize subgroup analyses.● pROC : To assess the predictive performance of asthma for MD via ROC curves and AUC.● survey & ggplot2 : To explore dose-response relationships using weighted regression and smoothing.● sensemakr : To perform sensitivity analyses regarding unmeasured confounding.Code Structure: The analysis pipeline is organized into distinct steps:1. Data preparation and cleaning.2. Descriptive analysis and baseline table generation.3. Primary association analysis (logistic regression models).4. Subgroup analysis and forest plot creation.5. Diagnostic and sensitivity checks.Data Availability: The underlying data come from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) 2020-2021 wave. Due to ethical restrictions, the raw dataset is not included here but is publicly available at https://elsa-project.ac.uk. Users will need to download the ELSA data and adjust file paths in the master script accordingly.
