Abstract

Supplemental material for conference poster presentation. Presented at British Association of Perinatal Medicine Spring Conference, 10-11 March 2026.This document presents a detailed case report of a term newborn with classic galactosaemia who exhibited falsely elevated blood glucose readings on bedside glucometers (pseudohyperglycaemia) while laboratory glucose measurements remained normal. The case illustrates an important but under-recognized diagnostic clue for galactosaemia in neonates presenting with jaundice, coagulopathy, and liver dysfunction. The report includes clinical presentation, investigations, management, and a literature review of similar cases. A proposed diagnostic algorithm is presented to guide clinicians in identifying galactosaemia when pseudohyperglycaemia is detected, enabling timely initiation of lactose-free diet while awaiting confirmatory testing.
