Advancing Digital Transformation and Access to Knowledge through the National Library of Nigeria Strategy 2025-2030.
Abstract
AbstractThis paper examined how the National Library of Nigeria (NLN) Strategy 2025–2030 functioned as a catalyst for redefining public and community libraries as inclusive and digitally empowered spaces. It aligned with the summit theme Libraries without Borders: Connecting the Dots and the subtheme of Digital Transformation and Access to Knowledge. The study explored how digital transformation, partnerships, and literacy initiatives were used to expand access to knowledge, preserve cultural heritage, and promote inclusive knowledge sharing. The study analyzed the NLN Strategy 2025–2030 and its vision, objectives, strategic initiatives, implementation framework, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, risk management, and sustainability plans. It focused on five strategic areas: digital transformation, cultural preservation and global promotion, literacy and lifelong learning, resource sustainability, and institutional capacity building. These areas were examined as mechanisms for bridging educational gaps, addressing the digital divide, and strengthening institutional capacity within Nigeria’s diverse population. Findings showed that the NLN Strategy provided a scalable model for African public and community libraries to create interconnected, knowledge-driven ecosystems. The strategy demonstrated how libraries can improve connectivity, promote inclusivity, and empower citizens through digital access and lifelong learning initiatives. The paper concludes that the NLN Strategy 2025–2030 offered practical pathways for advancing borderless, collaborative, and digitally transformed library systems to support social, educational, and economic development across Africa.
