Image Segmentation Workflow for Gas–Water Phase Distribution in a Coal Core
Abstract
This video shows the workflow used to segment the gas–water distribution within a coal core. Because no contrast tracer was added to the water phase, water and the coal matrix have similar grayscale intensities, making direct segmentation difficult. To overcome this, the pore structure was first extracted from the dry-scan image and then used as a mask to isolate the fluid pathways in the wet-scan image, acquired after the coreflooding experiment under residual conditions where gas and water coexist in the pore space. The gas and water phases were then segmented within the pore space based on their intensity differences.
