Abstract

Supplementary Figure 7- a) True model from which synthetic travel-times are generated. Blue error bars represent the depth of the true interplate reflector and its uncertainty. b) Retrieved model following the Monte Carlo approach described in Methods using synthetic travel-times from a) with added Gaussian random noise. Black error bars represent the depth of the retrieved interplate reflector and its uncertainty. c) True-Retrieved Vp difference. Blue and black lines are the true and retrieved average interplate reflector, respectively. d) True-retrieved reflector difference (white dots). Black error bars are uncertainties of the true reflector showing that differences between true and retrieved models are within error bounds, and thus controlled.
