Abstract

Across 2022-24 the University of Auckland established several areas of strategy including in digital and eResearch. Auckland identified the need for three areas of action to meet the rapidly rising demands of AI in teaching and learning, research, and its enabling environment. The Research AI Action Plan surfaced an unmet need, for a Research AI GPU platform.ABOUT THE AUTHORSNick Jones has been a pioneer of advanced computational and digital research for almost 20 years. Nick founded and led Aotearoa New Zealand’s national eScience organisation NeSI for 15 years before successfully completing a merger. Prior to his work in research he founded and commercialised early digital education and assessment platforms across the Asia Pacific. Nick has been an advocate for the evolution of research practice in advanced digital technologies across research data and software, computational thinking, and a user-centred and relational approach to delivering innovative experiences to researchers.Jun Huh is a Product Manager at Digital Research Innovation and AI at the University of Auckland. Jun brings his experience from start-up industries into the field of eResearch. He has been involved in genomic data management related projects to help build a data repository system in partnership with Genomics Aotearoa, and more recently, for the Rakeiora Pathfinder project, which focuses on enabling research while retaining full visibility and control of data to the indigenous communities.Rob Bensley is a Programme Manager at Digital Research Innovation and AI at the University of Auckland. Rob left science to take up data analytics decades before it became cool. He was the head of business operations for NeSI before joining an AI startup in the horticulture sector and subsequently directing consultancy in a digital agency. He has delivered the last three generations of NeSI’s national High Performance Computing infrastructure and is currently leading the investment and procurement of a new Research AI GPU platform. -----For more information about the eResearch NZ / eRangahau Aotearoa conference, visit: https://eresearchnz.co.nz/
