Artificial Intelligence: Ready for rigorous reviews?
Abstract
AI adoption and disruption are near ubiquitous, including in research workflows. Literature reviews are a labour-intensive activity, prime for AI assistance or automation. However, the question is not only “Are you ready” to adopt an AI-enabled review, but also “Is AI ready?” Are these AI tools ready for implementation in a robust, rigorous and high-quality evidence synthesis?Going beyond the hype and revolutionary claims that so many AI tools capitalise on, this talk will discuss the current state of AI in literature reviews. We will explore AI tools and applications in literature reviews, such as large language models for search development, specialised literature discovery tools and tools enabling robust screening assistance. Alongside outlining the strengths and weaknesses, tools and use cases will be aligned with policy, guidance and methodological standards. This talk will highlight opportunities for you to explore AI applications, serving as a launch pad to start experimenting with literature review-related tools with a critical lens.ABOUT THE AUTHORErin Woodis a Research Services Advisor from Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland’s Student and Scholarly Services. She supports researcher skill development in scholarly communications, from literature sourcing and reviewing through to publication and dissemination. Her recent focus has been on the impact of artificial intelligence on these processes, helping researchers adopt AI workflows in research communications effectively and ethically. -----For more information about the eResearch NZ / eRangahau Aotearoa conference, visit: https://eresearchnz.co.nz/
