Abstract

This pedagogical case study examines how AI literacy practices were enacted within a fashion textile design course, focusing on students’ engagement with prompt-based interaction and AI-supported design activities. The course was structured around four dimensions of AI literacy practice – algorithmic thinking, information and mis/disinformation ability, digital communication and collaboration, and data analysis and inference – which were used as analytical lenses to examine instructional design and student experience. Using a studio-based learning context, students engaged with generative AI tools to explore textile motifs, visual variations, and design concepts through structured prompt practices. Data were collected through surveys and reflective responses, capturing how students perceived and navigated AI-supported design processes. The findings provide a contextual account of how AI literacy practices can be integrated into fashion textile design education, illustrating the pedagogical role of prompts and AI tools in shaping design exploration, communication, and collaborative work within a specific instructional setting.
