Beyond Metabolic Dormancy: Metabolic Rewiring in Bacterial Persistence

Bacterial persister cells exhibit transient antibiotic tolerance and contribute to chronic infections, yet their metabolic diversity remains poorly understood. In this Perspective, we highlight how genetic, environmental, and intrinsic factors rewire persister metabolism, leading to heterogeneous metabolic states rather than uniform dormancy.
