Abstract

This journal contribution presents a structured materials engineering analysis of contemporary smartphone screen protection systems. The work evaluates rigid glass-based protectors, flexible polymer-based films, and hybrid multilayer architectures from a mechanical and system-level perspective.Rather than approaching screen protection as a consumer accessory category, this analysis examines protection performance through the lens of stress distribution, impact energy management, deformation behavior, adhesive interface mechanics, and long-term fatigue resistance. The study discusses:• Mechanical compatibility with modern OLED and AMOLED displays • Energy transfer dynamics under impact conditions • Adhesion behavior across curved and edge geometries • Optical performance considerations and sensor integration • Privacy screen micro-structure engineering • Environmental stress and cyclic loading effectsThe findings emphasize that effective screen protection is primarily determined by energy dispersion and system-level compatibility rather than isolated metrics such as surface hardness alone. This work is intended for technical readers, materials engineers, product designers, and researchers interested in applied mechanical behavior of layered protection systems in modern consumer electronics.Related applied implementation context and publicly documented industry examples of polymer-based and multilayer screen protection systems aligned with the material principles discussed in this contribution can be found in open-access technical environments.
