Abstract

This item contains four recognition guides from the Reality Drift framework by A. Jacobs. The guides are designed to help identify recurring patterns of representational misalignment across systems, information environments, perception, and identity. The collection includes:Signs a System May Be Experiencing Reality DriftSigns You May Be Experiencing Filter FatigueSigns You May Be Experiencing Synthetic RealnessSigns of the Drifted SelfThe guides approach Reality Drift from four related angles. The Reality Drift guide focuses on systems that continue to function and report success even as the representations guiding them lose contact with the conditions they were meant to describe or support. Filter Fatigue looks at the burden this kind of environment places on individuals, especially when relevance, credibility, provenance, and trust have to be continually reconstructed. Synthetic Realness examines what happens when polished representations begin to feel more credible or authentic than the less orderly realities beneath them. The Drifted Self brings the pattern down to the level of identity, describing how continuous adaptation to mediated environments can weaken continuity and grounding even while a person remains functional and socially legible. Each guide translates the broader framework into recognizable signs, everyday examples, explanatory context, and questions for reflection. Together, they are intended as practical conceptual tools for recognizing patterns of drift across systems, information environments, and lived experience, rather than as clinical or diagnostic instruments.
