Abstract

This dataset contains experimental data obtained from cloud chamber experiments conducted to investigate ice nucleation processes under high-salinity conditions. These data were used in the study:“Ice nucleation enhancement in ambient aerosols under high-salinity conditions: insights from cloud chamber experiments.”The dataset includes measurements from multiple instruments used during the experiments: 1. Chamber conditions (Pressure and Temperature)The dataset includes measurements of pressure (P), air temperature (Tair), minimum air temperature (Tair_minimum), and wall temperature (Twall) inside the cloud chamber. These variables describe the thermodynamic conditions during the expansion experiments and are essential for interpreting cloud formation and ice nucleation processes. Time stamps are recorded in local time (KST).2. Welas OPC (Optical Particle Counter)The Welas OPC provides aerosol number size distributions.Data are reported as dN/dlogDp (cm⁻³).The first row of the dataset represents the particle diameter (Dp) in micrometers (µm) corresponding to each size bin.Time stamps are recorded in local time (KST).These measurements represent the temporal evolution of aerosol size distributions during the cloud chamber experiments.3. CPI (Cloud Particle Imager)The CPI dataset includes particle morphological information and corresponding particle images. For each detected particle, the dataset provides:Length (µm)Width (µm)Particle imageAll dimensional measurements are reported in micrometers (µm).The CPI time stamps are recorded in UTC. To match the local experimental time used in other measurements (e.g., Welas OPC), +9 hours should be added to the CPI time stamps. 4. LI-COR (LI-COR H2O gas analyzer)The LI-COR H2O gas analyzer provides aerosol number size distributions.Data are reported as molar concentration of water vapor (mol m⁻³).Time stamps are recorded in local time (KST).These measurements represent the temporal evolution of water vapor concentration during the cloud chamber experiments. For Exp. 6, the saturation ratios could not be reliably calculated because of an instrumental problem with the gas analyzer.Data trimmingOnly data corresponding to the active experimental period were retained in this dataset. Measurements and images outside the experiment time window were removed to reduce file size and focus on the relevant observation period. As a result, in the CPI image sequence, the first and last image files of each experiment may appear slightly truncated.
