Crafting Regional Identity and Peace through the ASEAN Way in Diplomacy
Abstract
This study explores the role of the “ASEAN Way” in shaping regional identity and promoting peace in Southeast Asia. Using qualitative analysis of diplomatic practices, official ASEAN documents, and scholarly sources, the research highlights how principles such as consensus-building, non-interference, and informal dialogue contribute to regional stability. Despite criticisms regarding slow decision-making and limited responsiveness to geopolitical challenges, the ASEAN Way remains a vital mechanism for sustaining cooperation among member states. The study emphasizes the need to adapt this diplomatic approach to address emerging regional and global challenges
