Protocol for a scoping review and consensus process to describe and prioritise use cases for biomarkers and tests for tuberculosis - Extended Data
Abstract
The associated research protocol outlines the TB-BIOATLAS project, which aims to identify, map, and prioritize "use cases" for tuberculosis (TB) biomarkers and diagnostic tests. While the WHO has established target product profiles (TPPs), specific clinical scenarios for biomarker use remain scattered across diverse guidelines. By identifying these gaps, the study seeks to align research and investment with the most critical clinical and public health needs. The methodology employs a multi-step, iterative process. First, we undertook a scoping review to identify existing use cases in academic literature and global health repositories using the Arksey and O’Malley framework, Then, we undertook consensus-building activities, utilizing a hybrid RAND/UCLA and modified Delphi process to evaluate use cases with a diverse group of stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, and people with lived experience of TB.The extended data document provides the technical framework for this review, including the search strategy for databases like PubMed and WHO IRIS. It details specific inclusion and exclusion criteria for selecting TPPs and international guidelinesand includes the data extraction form used to capture use case IDs, target populations, and mapped TB disease states.
