Data and Code for "A season-dependent weather predictability barrier phenomenon in the Martian atmosphere"
Abstract
MATLAB Code and Data Repository for Publication FiguresPaper InformationTitle: A season-dependent weather predictability barrier phenomenon in the Martian atmosphereAuthors: Yi Zhuang, Wansuo Duan, and Li DongJournal: Journal of Geophysical Research: PlanetsOverviewThis repository contains the processed datasets, custom functions, external toolboxes, and MATLAB scripts required to reproduce the main text figures (Figure 1-12) and supplementary figures (Figure S1-S12) for the associated publication.System RequirementsSoftware: MATLAB R2022a (or later)Operating System: Windows/macOS/LinuxDirectory StructureThe repository is organized into the following subdirectories:/Data/: Contains the pre-processed MATLAB data files (.mat) used for plotting. These datasets are derived from various sources, including raw model outputs, post-processed model results, and reanalysis data. Each file corresponds to a specific figure (e.g., Figure1_data.mat) to ensure lightweight and fast rendering./External/: Contains third-party packages and toolboxes utilized in the plotting process - m_map: A mapping package for geographic projections. (Download/Info: https://www.eoas.ubc.ca/~rich/map.html) - cmocean: Perceptually uniform colormaps for oceanography/meteorology. (Download/Info: https://github.com/chadagreene/cmocean)/Figures/: The designated output directory. All generated high-resolution figures will be automatically saved here upon executing the scripts./Functions/: Contains custom auxiliary MATLAB functions created for this project (e.g., blwhre.m, lonlatlabel.m, nanmask.m, viridis.m). These are called automatically by the main plotting scripts./Scripts/: Contains the main executable MATLAB scripts (plot_Figure*.m). Each script is self-contained and corresponds to a specific figure in the manuscript.Usage InstructionsLaunch MATLAB R2022a (or later).CRITICAL: Set the `/Scripts/` folder as your Current Working Directory in MATLAB. The scripts use relative paths (e.g., '../Data/', '../Figures/') and will fail to locate files if run from the root directory.Open any plotting script (e.g., plot_Figure1.m) and click "Run", or type the script name in the Command Window. The script will automatically: - Add the /Functions/ and /External/ folders to the MATLAB path. - Load the necessary data from the /Data/ folder. - Render the figure in a MATLAB figure window. - Export and save a 300 DPI high-resolution image to the /Figures/ folder.NotesFigures sharing the same data and plotting logic (e.g., S8 and S10, S9 and S11) have been merged into single scripts (plot_FigureS8_S10.m, plot_FigureS9_S11.m) which will sequentially generate and export both figures. All code is thoroughly commented in English to facilitate readability and reproducibility.
