Abstract

As part of a comprehensive field test of safe, washable menstrual health products with material developed by the Cardiff University team areas where access to clean water is limited, to validate the effectiveness of our technology in the field in Nepal, we conducted an initial user acceptability study where we will piloted the product in experienced reuseable menstrual pad users in the UK (work package 3.3a).The design is a single-arm initial user acceptability pilot study of the SunPad product in the UK, aiming to generate data on acceptability and unanticipated side effects and/or reactions. Objectives were1.Recruit 30 women who menstruate from the UK who have prior experience of using washable menstrual pads2. After one menstrual cycle of the standard reuseable menstrual pad (follow-up 1):determine initial levels of acceptability of the product.determine whether there are any unanticipated side effects and/or reactions from using the product.obtain feedback on product quality and use. After one menstrual cycle where the product (SunPad) is used (follow-up 2):determine initial levels of acceptability of the product.determine whether there are any unanticipated side effects and/or reactions from using the product.obtain feedback on product quality and use.Following completion of this work package, we will have greater reassurance around the safety and initial acceptability of this product, and this will be useful in informing more extensive piloting in the Kaski District of Nepal.
