Abstract

The database provides the data and R code used for the statistical analyses and figures in the manuscript "Carbon allocation shifts while ecosystem stocks remain stable across fire-frequency gradients in Madagascar’s grassy ecosystems" by Víctor Fernández-García, Cristina Santín, Philippa Ascough, Adam Devenish, Maria S. Vorontsova, Nandrianina Ramifehiarivo and Lovafitia Ratovoarimanana. The study analyzes the associations between fire frequency and fire seasonality with ecosystem C stocks, allocation and composition across three representative ecosystems of Madagascar’s Central Highlands: medium-altitude grasslands, high-altitude grasslands and tapia savannas. These relationships were also analyzed in relation to soil fertility. Thus, the dataset includes fire data (fire frequency and seasonality), as well as carbon storage data for different compartments: topsoil (0-5cm), fine roots, litter, ground vegetation (herbaceous or woody plants
