Abstract

Lissocephala fijiensis was described by Harrison (1954) from a specimen collected at Suva on the main Fijian island—Vite Levu. Images presented here are of specimens collected near Nadi on the other side of the island, most likely belonging to the same population. The morphology of the two Nadi specimens imaged here agrees well with Harrison’s detailed description except a “pair of slightly enlarged hairs in prescutellar region” was not observed (Fig. 2). Lissocephala fijiensis has a pale pleura with a dark katepisternum (Fig. 3), this is particularly apparent in direct comparison with three congeners from the Australian Region (McEvey, 2026d): L. metallescens (widespread) (see McEvey, 2026a), L. powelli (from Christmas I, Indian Ocean) (see McEvey, 2026b), and L. versicolor (Samoa) (see McEvey, 2026c). Of these four species L. fijiensis is unique in bearing a distinctly expanded lower calypter (Fig. 6, see also McEvey, 2026d).
